Becoming a Volunteer

The members of the Eastern Plumas Healthcare Auxiliary would like to extend an invitation to our community members to join our Auxiliary. Membership is $5.00 per year or $100 for a lifetime membership. Please contact us at:  530-832-5967; Email: info@ephcauxiliary.org to get more information or an application. You can also visit the Nifty Thrifty store on Commercial St. in Portola to pick up a copy.

One of the benefits of becoming a member of the EPHC Auxiliary is volunteering your valuable time to the Nifty Thrifty Store. There are many fun jobs, and you’re free to choose how many hours you’d like to work. We will appreciate whatever time you can give to help us! The funds brought in from sales at the Nifty Thrifty result in major contributions to our hospital and clinics for much needed patient care related items, including essential medical equipment in both our Portola and Loyalton facilities.

We also need volunteers to assist with our blood drives, helping in the hospital lobby, working as Auxiliary Historian, or putting together our quarterly newsletter.

We are all very proud of our accomplishments over the past years. We invite you to join us and become a part of our mission!


Scholarships For EPHC Employees

Eastern Plumas Health Care’s Auxiliary is pleased to provide scholarships to EPHC employees annually. Applications are accepted from July through September 30th. Scholarship funds are awarded to those employees wishing to continue their education in the medical field in order to advance their careers at our hospital. Things typically covered are advanced certifications, job related expenses, and continuing education – including tuition, books, uniforms, or transportation.

All applicants that meet the deadline will be interviewed by a committee of Auxiliary members. For any questions, please contact Janie McBride, EPHC Auxiliary President at 530.520.3292.


A Message From The Auxiliary’s New President, Janie McBride

I’m happy to report that since being inducted as your Auxiliary President, I have experienced very positive encouragement and support from everyone. I thank you all for this.

Our newly installed Board of Directors includes:

A Very Special Donation

This past June, our Auxiliary received a very generous donation from the family of one of our beloved members, who had passed away. The Auxiliary Board asked CEO Tom Hayes what item of equipment, essential for patient care, is most needed currently; we didn’t want to wait until the end of the year to put this donation to work. We learned that the hospital’s diagnostic cardiac ultrasound equipment had failed – and, that this machine is essential to the hospital’s operations. At our July meeting, the Board voted to purchase a new echocardiogram machine, which will produce high quality digital pictures of the size, structure, and movement, of various parts of the heart. We want to thank our anonymous donor for making the purchase of this vital piece of equipment possible.


Nifty Thrifty’s New Manager

Matt Hamilton is the new manager at the Auxiliary’s thrift store, Nifty Thrifty. Matt is doing a great job of organizing our operation there. And, he’s been well received by the volunteers. The summer always brings an increase in our donations, but our dedicated volunteers have been managing to stay ahead of the mountain of items we have to sort through, clean, and prepare for sale. Thanks to our volunteers for their hard work and dedication, and thanks also to our community for supporting our mission with generous donations and for shopping at our Nifty Thrifty store!
